At night I dream that you and I are two plants that grew together, roots entwined, and that you know the earth and the rain like my mouth, since we are made of earth and rain
Pablo Neruda

Links are woven as year follows year and life’s threads intertwine, but sometimes days are enough to capture a dream... This is the theme of the next contemporary art exhibition at chARTreuse (the last of the season, 2016). In September the British artist Philippa Smith will unveil her new series of work intertwined. Video, drawing, painting and photography will emerge from the cloister like an enchanted forest celebrating the spiritual interweaving of man and nature.

branches, trees, twigs intertwining
reaching out for each other and
standing alone

a leaf floats and falls
unexpected in time and space
disembarking in unknown territory

lines that draw themselves
pathways appearing, disappearing
some more trodden than others
some barely be seen, tiny threads,
graphite shining in the sunlight

all possibilities are there
some taken, others put by
others stumbled and scribbled upon
some obtstinately keep on drawing
yet others float, wander, meander,
unfolding in pure delight
